Parents that were not pleased with their children’s performances joined those whose results had errors to protest outside KNEC Offices in Nairobi. The protests about KCPE results piling more pressure to the exam body.
The parents specifically from a school in Kitengela – Kitengela international school stormed the offices demanding that the errors be rectified immediately. The parents now claiming that the results did not reflect their children’s abilities as they have always performed well.
“We truly believe that those do not reflect the abilities of our kids. We are 100 per cent sure those are not our results. It can’t be that a school that has been number 1 in the country for the last three years all of a sudden in two years’ time we don’t have top performers.” lamented one parent.
Another parent claiming that the recent errors is an injustice to not only Kitengela International school but also to all the parents and candidates who sat for the KCPE 2023 Examinations
“To me as a parent representing the parents, I believe that this is a sincere injustice to the children of Kitengela International as indicated here and also to the children of other schools in this nation.”
The protests about KCPE results comes after the Kenya National Union Of Teachers (KNUT) asked an audit to be done and the KNEC CEO David Njegere to be held accountable for the errors. READ: KNUT on KCPE Errors: KNEC Must Be Held Responsible
However, on Friday, KNEC admitted that it had spotted errors in the dissemination of the results after some schools and candidates raised the concerns.
Parents raised concerns of having marks for subjects not registered for, whole school having identical marks in all subjects and some marks missing in some subjects.
KNEC indicated that it had begun addressing some of the concerns raised by the parents clarifying that the issues had affected only SMS results due to configuration issues. They added that only 133 students were affected and the issue was being corrected.
