According to Machogu, about 95% of schools in the country as per the reports by the regional directors have been cleared for reporting of students on Monday with the government assessing the few remaining.
Machogu said that due to the extent of destruction by floods and the delay in opening of schools, the ministry will ensure that the second term will be extended by two weeks to ensure that the syllabus is well covered.
This is to allow students and teachers to cover for the time lost dueing the re-opening extension that was directed by the President last week.
However, the Education Cabinet Secretary listed areas where schools will remain closed due to the adverse effects of floods in those counties.
Schools in Tana River, Homa Bay and Kisumu counties will remain closed ahead of re-opening on Monday as government continues to seek alternative learning methods for learners in these regions.
