Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while speaking about the ongoing flooding situation in the country, the DP noted that the Ministry of Education will coordinate with counties to analyse the situation in various counties before giving directions.
According to the Deputy President, schools that have not been affected by the floods that have rocked most parts of the country will allow students to report on the date that was indicated by the government.
However, those schools that have been affected by the floods will have to wait longer as the government continues to assess the situation and plan for the next course of action.
“On a case by case, it will be analysed on its own merit. Where there is a need to extend the opening day, we can do that. Otherwise, for the purpose of the country, the school will open as planned.”
Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang has said that the Ministry has already started analysing the situation in Nairobi County to ensure that early plans are made to avoid last minute rush.
According to the PS, the Ministry of Education has already noted that a total of 64 schools in Nairobi county would have their opening dates rescheduled due to the destruction of classes and washrooms.
