The government through the Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has announced that the government is in the process to kick off the mandatory Biometric registration for all civil servants.
Speaking on KTN News on Wednesday evening, Kuria stated that the mandatory Biometric registration for civil servants will help the government, among other things, weed out ghost workers from the wage bill.

According to Kuria, the programme will kick off in May next month which will also be in collaboration with the Ministry of Health as part of the changes to the new digital health system that will replace NHIF.
“I intend to do biometrics re-registration of all public workers starting from next month. As part of digital health we have to take the biometrics of everybody so that they can access social health which is a good thing.”
This comes as the government insisted that Biometric Registration will be part of the requirement for the migration of kenyans from the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
The move is also aimed to weed out ghost workers that the CS claims are overwhelming the government and therefore control the ammount the government uses to pay ghost workers.
“This country is full of ghosts. We are paying ghost civil servants and ghost teachers. We are spending capital on ghost students. We are sending cash transfers to ghost elderly citizens.”

Its however unclear whether the government will conduct the Biometric registration to only civil servants and other kenyans for Social Health Fund or to all kenyans in one exercise.
