Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has come out to clarify the party’s position in the recently named cabinet nominees that includes majorly ODM members.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Sifuna said that the cabinet nominees accepted the nomination as individuals and as far as the party is concerned, they have no blessings from the party to join government.

“ODM has not joined the government. As the Secretary General of ODM, I sit in all organs of the party and as SG of ODM, I am the spokesperson of all those organs of the party.”
This comes after Kenyans expressed their disappointments after high ranking ODM members were included in the cabinet named by President William Ruto yesterday.
“There has been a lot of speculation over what happened yesterday but the truth of the matter is that there is no decision of any organ of ODM that I sit in to join the Ruto government.”
Sifuna admits that even though Raila and Ruto conversed about having a national dialogue, that will involve all kenyans and not specific leaders. This comes amid reports that Raila fronted the names of the nominees himself to President Ruto.
“Ever since the meeting at KICC, I think there has been a deliberate effort to misrepresent the position of the party, especially in the print media. But I was left in the dark about nominations until yesterday when i finally knew what was going on.”
Sifuna called the ODM members out for accepting the offer by Ruto and added that they made the decision as individuals and not as a party and as far as he is concerned as the Secretary General, that is the current position of the party.

“As Secretary General if I was asked for names, I was not going to pick individuals who were already elected in positions to necessitate by- elections, I would have picked two men and two women, I would have picked a youth member. They made these decisions as individuals.”
