The government through the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of the Nairobi Expressway and other major roads in Nairobi.
According to reports, a total of 12 roads within Nairobi will be closed to pave the way for the Nairobi City Marathon competition that is set to happen over the weekend.
“This is to facilitate the 2024 Nairobi City Marathon. Motorists are advised to follow the traffic signs and guidance as directed by the Police and Traffic Marshals.”

Among the roads that will be closed include Nairobi Southern Bypass at the exit of the expressway, the Nairobi Expressway between James Gichuru Road and the entrance to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
In addition, the Waiyaki Way between James Gichuru Road and the entrance to the Expressway, Mombasa Road, Langata Road, Harry Thuku Road, the University Way, Koinange Street, Tata Road, Wakiihuri and Bunyala Roads.
The above listed road sections will be closed between Saturday, September 7 at midnight and Sunday, September 8, at 2 PM after which traffic normalcy at these sections will return.
The Highways Authority has therefore advised motorists planning to use the routes to take heed of the traffic signs and guidance from the police and traffic marshals.
Motorists were also directed to use alternative routes to avoid causing disruptions along the above-mentioned roads. Those seeking to use the University Way were urged to utilize the Kenyatta and Moir Avenues and Murang’a Road.

Meanwhile, vehicle owners planning to use the Uhuru Highway, Koinange Street and Harry Thuku Road were instructed to use the Nairobi Ring-Road Networks through Westlands, Ngara and the Ring Road to Eastlands.
