Hours after a Five storey building in Uthiru collapsed trapping some tenants inside, other tenants have revealed warning messages sent to them by the landlady.
According to reports, some tenants had noticed cracks on the Uthiru building on Tuesday and after raising the alarm to the landlady, she immediately called an engineer who assessed the building and noted that it was safe hours before it collapsed.

However, the landlady was worried about the cracks and sent warning messages in the tenant WhatsApp group claiming that the heavy rains had affected backfilling soil sipping into the floor.
“Hi All. Engineer Chege has been and inspected the building. He stated that the building structure is safe. Due to the heavy rainfall, backfilling soil has soaked through, thus the floor breakage,” she wrote.
In addition, the landlady warned that if the situation escalates and the tenants notice any more cracks on the building, she should be notified immediately and assured tenants that a second engineer will assess the situation further.
“I am concerned for all of us and I would not wish for anything wrong with our building. Please don’t hesitate to call me if you have any concerns. I’ve booked another engineer to give us a second opinion. He will be here 8 am (on Wednesday-today)”
However, Wednesday never came as the building came crumbling down on Tuesday night trapping some of the tenants under the rubble with several others injured.
