In a bid to encourage more customers to acquire the 5G routers, Safaricom has decided to cut the prices by 60%. This move comes after a review by the giant telecommunication company to ensure more people are connected in the 5G network.
The company will also increase connectivity of the superfast internet to more counties. Up to 35 counties are lined up in the extention spread aimed to increase accessibility.
The routers which were going for Ksh. 25,000 previously before a review will start selling at Ksh. 9,000. More people are estimated to acquire them with the recent cut to accomodate more. Peter Ndegwa, The Safaricom CEO has emphasised on the need of empowering kenyans to explore the 5G possibilities.
“As a digital lifestyle enabler, we are excited about a 5G future. Which makes it possible to close the digital divide in underserved communities. Also provide access to critical services such as healthcare or spur economic growth by connecting small businesses to new opportunities. By increasing 5G coverage, we are enhancing Kenya’s best internet network and empowering our customers to start exploring the possibilities of 5G.”
Safaricom has also stated that eligible customers can sign an 18- month contract that allows them to gain access to the router and services for free. Also various packages have been introduced that customers can purchase and subscribe. With options from 400GB for Ksh.3,499, 800GB for Ksh.5,999 to 1500GB for Ksh.9,999.
In addition, the 5G is offering an unlimited packages for businesses. Starting from Ksh. 4000, a customer can get 10mbps. This will provide an uninterrupted connectivity that is essential for businesses.
However, majority of counties across the country are already connected with 5G and Safaricom is working to ensure a complete connection across the country is achieved. This is by connecting the remaining counties.
