A total of four kenyans bagged the 2023 Athletics Awards announced on the 11th of December. Faith Kipyegon, Kelvin Kiptum, Faith Cherotich and Emmanuel Wanyonyi making Kenyan Athletes who won awards.
The awards that were announced in Monaco saw Faith Kipyegon bag the World Athlete of the year women category and Kelvin Kiptum bagging the men’s category as the male Athlete of the year.
Teenagers Faith Cherotich and Emmanuel Wanyonyi were also recognised and awarded in the rising star categories in the female and male respectively.

They both made it to kenyan athletes who won medals at the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23, with Cherotich claiming bronze in the 3000m steeplechase and Wanyonyi securing silver in the 800m.

The Rising star won the world U20 bronze in 2021 and gold in 2022. She also moved to second on the world U20 all-time list with 8:59.65 to finish third in the Diamond League Final in Eugene. She finished fourth in the U20 race at the World Cross Country Championships.
Emmanuel Wanyonyi
After the world medal win, 2021 world U20 gold medallist Wanyonyi became Diamond League champion in 2023, claiming the trophy in a PB of 1:42.80. He also won Diamond League races in Rabat, Paris, and Xiamen and formed part of Kenya’s victorious world cross country mixed relay team.
With Kelvin Kiptum and Faith Kipyegon bagging major accolades in the male and Female category, it’s fair to say that Kenya was well represented in the awards having bagged four of them.

As the heated 2024 Olympics build up, we hope to see a stiff competition between Kiptum and Kipchoge as each hopes to outshine the other after Kiptum’s record smash.
