Telecommunication giant Safaricom has finally broken silence after concerns were raised on the low Internet speeds that have been experienced in kenya since Sunday.
Through their social media platforms, Safaricom noted that the low internet speeds in Kenya have been caused by an outage on one of the undersea cables that deliver internet traffic in and out of the country.

According to Safaricom, the issue is yet to be resolved as urget team has been deployed and has since “activated redundancy measures to minimise service interruption and keep you connected as we await the full restoration of the cable.”
However, Safaricom noted that kenyans will continue to experience low internet speeds and urged kenyans to be patient as they work to solve the issue that has affected larger east and south Africa.
This comes after reports emerged that over 80 million Internet users in East Africa have been affected by the outage caused by a cable break approximately 42 kilometers from the Mtunzini Cable Landing Station.
Repair teams have been swiftly mobilized and optimization efforts are underway to mitigate disrupted services but work is expected to commence later this week.
The ongoing outage has also been partly attributed to damage to the SEACOM cable, a 17,000-kilometer submarine cable connecting South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Djibouti, France and India.
However, reports indicate that the previously similar damaged Internet service cables in the Red Sea have never been repaired after a ship dropped its anchor on them accidentally since February.

Kenyans have been notified to expect low internet coverage for the better part of this week as the relevant providers work to restore operations.
