President William Ruto has explained why he chose to send retired army generals to war torn nations, this case being Pakistan and Iran as Diplomats.
The head of state who was speaking at State House during the swearing-in of new military officers said that he came to that decision because the assignment needed extensive and experienced individuals deeming them well-suited for the demanding assignments.
This comes after Ruto nominated immediate former Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lt Gen Jonah Mwangi and Kenya Army commander Peter Njiru to be the new envoys to Tehran, Iran and Islamabad, Pakistan respectively.

“I have given you difficult stations but I know you are up to that responsibility. Tehran and Islamabad are not very easy stations. Pakistan, we all know what is going on there. We also know what is going on in Iran and that is why I believe that senior citizens like yourselves with wide experience are the best to man those stations.”
The retired army generals nominations who are now waiting for Members of Parliament’s approval were congratulated as they prepare to assume their new roles in the difficult assignment in these war torn countries.
Mwangi and Njiru are among several other individuals who have been nominated as high commissioners, ambassadors, permanent representatives, deputy heads of mission, consul-generals and special envoys to various countries.
