The government has asked teachers to take The Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) course. This is to ensure effective transition from the 8-4-4 to the current CBC. The CBC Courses For Teachers helps create understanding of what is expected of the teacher.
This comes after a shift in the education system, with this year’s KCPE learners being the last. The phase out expected to start immediately as the ministry will embrace CBC.
Teachers who have been in the work force and didn’t study CBC in their teacher training have been asked to take CBC courses to keep up with the changing education system.
This will help them compete in promotions and become effective in ensuring that the curriculum is well implemented.
With a diploma or certificate in the CBC, a teacher can be well versed in the system to know how well to handle the learners for effective outcomes.
With the Junior Secondary Schools becoming a norm, the demand of well versed Competency Based Curriculum teachers will rise. And this means that teachers with skills on the curriculum will stand a better chance.
As a primary school teacher, the government can decide to promote these teachers to teach in JSS. This is due to salary demands from degree holders and other factors by TSC. Therefore you should ensure that you are well prepared just in case an opportunity presents itself.

Therefore, taking the CBC course will not only help you understand your learners but also help you navigate the job groups.
Also, most primary schools employing teachers on PTA terms, they require teachers who have knowledge on CBC to help in workload. This means you’ll have more opportunities as you wait for the government to take you on a permanent employment basis.
