President William Ruto has hit the ground in the coast region. This will be his five day tour in the region which will see him cut through the region. But what will the tour mean to the residents. What are they in for?
The tour will see the President launch and inspect various projects within the five counties of the region. According to the programme released by State House, this will be a development tour. Therefore alot is expected in terms of projects.
Starting his tour in Kilifi, he will start by commissioning the Mwakirunge Road in Rabai Constituency. Heading to Kilifi on Thursday, the head of state will launch an electricity mini-grid at Wasini Island in Lunga-Lunga. He will also preside over the Shimoni Fish Port Groundbreaking. He will wrap the day by inspecting a road (Dongo Kundu) and the Mombasa-Mtwapa road.
Proceeding to Friday, the President will chair a Cabinet meeting at Statehouse Mombasa before heading to a tour at the Moi International Airport. The agenda of the meeting and the visit to Moi International Airport remain under wraps. Same day, he is expected to preside over the Tax Payer’s day.
Lamu county will host the President on Saturday where he will commission the Lamu East Road and inspect the Lamu Technical institute together with Bura Irrigation Scheme. Additionally, he will also commission the Galole Gravity Water Project and issue fish grants in Tana River.
Sunday will be a day of thanksgiving prayer which will be interdenominational in Mombasa. Before conclusion, the President will tour and inspect the Baricho Water Supply project in Malindi. The last mile connectivity project in Ganze and Kinango Training Institute will form his last checklists.
The President is also keen to try and solve the land issues in Mombasa to ensure that residents get title deeds in a despute that has lasted centuries. This will be in a bid to turn the wave of the region from Azimio’s grasp heading to the 2027 general elections.
