President William Ruto’s branded Christmas gifts to his neighbours and tribesmen in Sugoi has been met by inquisitive netizens who have sparked a debate on the nature of branded Christmas items.
Kenyans on various socials have questioned why the President had to brand the items he was gifting kenyans for christmas like he is in a campaign mode. Some claiming it was unnecessary.
This comes after President William Ruto accompanied by Johnson Sakaja, Jonathan Bill, other local MPs and first lady did share branded Christmas gifts with locals who flocked his Sugoi home. However, the branding has caught the attention of netizens who have made it a point of debate.

Most kenyans including political analysts have raised concerns saying that the presidency is a national office and gifting to his village men was okay but the branding violates even the constitution in Chapter six.
However, Dr Samwel Okuro, Senior Lecturer at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University says that the branding was aimed at achieving a particular objective which the President was well aware of.
This he says violates the cohesion of a people and rips off chapter 10 on national values expected of leaders and the principles of Governance. This is if the branding was aimed at achieving early campaigns due to the branding of the sitting president, barely two years into office.

Statehouse has however rubbished these concerns saying that the act was out of goodwill and in no way related to campaigns but a good Christmas gesture to the President’s locals in Sugoi.
“Where do you draw the line between branding or not and good faith or not? It’s really not an issue. Whatever you do, whether is slaughtering, sharing, giving, eating together etc, it doesn’t matter. What matters is the act of sharing.” Said Hussein Mohammed, the Statehouse Spokesperson.
