Former President and Uhuru Kenyatta and Facilitator of the East African Community (EAC) has come out to condemn the Nangaa-led Congo River Alliance (DRC Rebels Presser) in Nairobi.
In a statement on Monday, the former President said he was shocker by these developments that saw a growing diplomatic tension between Kenya and the DRC.
“I repudiate these developments, particularly their military character, and the accompanying politically charged and provocative rhetoric.”

The rebels who held their meeting in Nairobi and held a presser that saw a group of Congolese opposition leaders teamed up with M23 rebels to announce the alliance. Something that did not sit right with the current regime in DRC.
However, the DRC government gave kenya instructions to arrest these opposition leaders, something that President William Ruto said will not happen as Kenya is a democratic state with freedom of speech. Thus the tension that saw thr withdrawal of ambassadors.
Uhuru however said that there must be a stop to the senseless killing and pressers like the one seen in Nairobi won’t bring peace in the Congolese country. Blaming the government for allowing such an unprecedented action.

“I restate my support for the US-brokered ceasefire and continue to seek its indefinite extension to facilitate the peace-building process, put an end to the senseless killing and suffering of the people of the eastern DRC, and set the stage for a resumption of the Nairobi peace process, and the brokering of lasting peace in the troubled region of the eastern DRC.”
Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs said in a statement that even though Kenya has no hand and is no way involved in the DRC rebels’ presser, Kenya allows freedom of speech.
“The Ministry wishes to note that Kenya is an open and democratic state where freedom of the press is vouchsafed. As such, nationals and non-nationals may engage the Kenyan media without reference to the government.”
