Acting United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Hassan Omar has confimed that over 300 MPs have appended their signatures in the Gachagua Impeachment Motion yet to be tabled.
While using the opportunity to hit at Gachagua, the Secretary General criticised the deputy president for propagating division in the country and further accused him of playing tribal politics despite being a national leader.
According to the party official, DP Gachagua’s recent sentiments against President William Ruto’s administration posed a significant threat to the country’s unity and therefore should face dire consequences.
“What we are seeing him currently doing is argue for the same old policies, of malice, division, hatred and ethnicity. I don’t think it is proper to have a deputy president who is a threat to the country’s unity.”
This comes after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claimed that MPs who have signed the Impeachment motion were offered a total of Ksh 5 Million each for their signatures after they have been confirmed to have hit over 300 signatures.
Speaking to Mwea residents in Kirinyaga County, Gachagua revealed that his opponents attempted to bribe county Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Senator James Murango, whom he noted declined to sign the motion.
“Njeri was called and they tried to sell her fear by telling her to sign for my impeachment but she declined. She was told to take Ksh.5 million but refused. Senator James Murango was also offered cash but he declined.”
However, the DP has insisted that he was elected together with President William Ruto and the people. “I was elected by the people of Kenya, not by the president. Both the president and I were elected on one ticket and you chose Ruto because I was there. If Gachagua was not there, you would not have chosen him.”
