Two people have been confirmed dead with Over forty others Hospitalised in Critical Condition After Eating rice and beans in Vihiga.
According to reports, the incident took place after the victims reportedly consumed contaminated rice and beans at a local church in Luanda, Vihiga County in a Suspected food poisoning.
Witnesses who are privy to the matter claim that the church members, most of whom originated from Luanda, had attended a ceremony when they were unknowingly served the contaminated food in the church.

It was after eating the food that several of church members reportedly fell unconscious and were immediately rushed to the Vihiga Sub-County Hospital where two people succumbed while receiving treatment.
While mourning the deaths, one of the agonised residents called on the area MP Omboko Milemba to intervene by facilitating the transfer of some of the victims to other hospitals.
“I have come here and found my brother dead. We are not sure whether he has been transferred to the mortuary or not. I plead with our MP Omboko Milemba to dispatch a rescue team,” said one of the locals.
Luanda MP Dick Maungu Confirmed the incident and claimed that he had already contacted the area police officers to commence investigations into the matter and provide findings urging members of the public and the healthcare workers to jointly assist in taking the victims who were yet to be treated to hospital.

“We urge members of the public, our coordinators, and Community Health Promoters to assist those still at home and report the issue to relevant health facilities for assistance. Therefore, we urge the general public to be vigilant, especially on this holiday period of December. We wish all those hospitalised at various health facilities a quick recovery.”
