This comes amid protests andfrom the interns saying they will not extend another one year on contract basis. Through their leaders, the interns have promised to protest until their grievances are addressed by the commision.
The commision still hoods their position that currently the commision has no funds for permanent and pensionable employment terms for interns. However, the commision has promised to employ them on permanent and pensionable terms if they complete a two year internship contract.
According to TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, the earliest absorption of primary and secondary school intern teachers into the permanent and pensionable payroll would occur in 2025. This contradicts the earlier agreement with the interns who say the agreement was one year which ends in December 31st 2023.
Interns have also raised concerns about the stipends they are getting as compared to the workload they are exposed to. This comes as the government is struggling to put up with the Competency Based Curriculum in the country.
