The Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC) has taken an action against teacher interns who failed to renew contracts for the second year from future jobs.
According to reports, the commision is said to have received and documented information of teachers who failed to renew contracts and report in their respective Junior Secondary Schools posts to renew their contracts for the second year
The TSC however has of now re-advertised their opportunities and announced vacant positions to be filled after lack of teacher interns in these JSS schools and is currently ongoing online.

This comes after intern teachers at the junior secondary school level rejected the second year extension. They advocated for immediate confirmation to permanent terms after serving for a year. However, the Commission insisted on the necessity of an additional year of service before confirmation.
The TSC has emphasized the government’s policy for teachers to undergo a two-year internship before being absorbed into permanent and pensionable terms. This policy change, as mentioned by President William Ruto, aims to address staffing gaps in junior schools
However, according to the interns, inadequate monthly stipends, deductions reducing their earnings, and challenging working conditions in remote schools are challenges that are making them not renew their contracts.
