Residents of Mavoko area are still in shock after their houses were demolished some weeks ago. This happened after the court ordered that they were in the land illegally. Portland Cement Company has since decided to resell some part of the land to help the company accumulate finances. This was said that will benefit those on the land before extension to those who are not on it.
Since then, the law has been taking it’s course as to who sold the land illegally to unsuspecting kenyans. So far, Three Aimi Ma Lukenya Society officials were today arraigned over the disputed East African Portland cement land in Mavoko, Machakos County.
The three, Julius Mutua (chairman), Pascal Kiseli (treasurer), and secretary Alex Kyalo Mutemi were arrested in connection with the disputed land. According to prosecution, the investigations against the three was at it’s early stages. They then requested more time to complete investigation before presenting the full report to court.
A request that the defense couldn’t hear any of. The defense wants the investigation done as the suspects are out of custody as they are not categorised as flight risk. This they said won’t have them running because they are responsible leaders in society who have responsibilities to serve.
Defense argued that demolitions were done even with the case filed in the court of appeal adding that the case has been active since 2014 and are willing to cooperate with investigators to unearth the truth.
“There was no final decision to warrant the company to demolish the property when the matter and the same party is before the court of appeal.”
Suspects remain detained at the Muthaiga Police Station pending a rulling on the same on Wednesday. This might be a case to determine whether the Mavoko victims will be compensated and by who.
According to reports, the complainant in the case is the Managing Director of East African Portland Cement Company. More to follow about the same
