A Teargas canister is said to have exploded on a protester today during Gen Z protests in Nairobi as he attempted to throw it back to polics officers.
Reports indicate that the middle aged protester was badly injured on his hand after the teargas exploded after being launched by police officers. He was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialised treatment.
This comes barely a week after a Police Officer lost both of his hands after a teargas canister he was preparing to launch at peaceful protesters exploded in his hands, leading to amputation of his forearms.
However, today’s incident has been condemned because the protester attempted to pick the canister after the Anti-riot police had fired it towards their direction leading to the explosion on his hand.
Other protesters helped wrap his hand with a red cloth before he was put on a motorcycle and rushed to the hospital. He is yet to be released from hospital after the unfortunate incident.
This comes as police officers continue to engage in running battles with protesters in Nairobi CBD and other major towns across the country over insatisfaction of the government of the day.
In as much as shooting incidents have been reported during today’s protests, no official reports on the number of casualties have been released with several others reported injured and rushed to Kenyatta.
