Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan has cut short her COP28 trip due to the floods in Tanzania and landslides causing havoc back in her country.
According to reports, the floods and landslides have caused a total of 50 deaths. The President had earlier sent condolence messages but the seriousness of the situation couldn’t wait any loner.
According to the President spokesperson Zuhura Yanus, a disaster stryat the Northern Hanang region that caused deaths of atleast 50 people over the weekend.

According to reports, more than 5,600 people have been directly affected by the ongoing floods in the country. This has also touched on property destruction.
According to the Presidents spokesperson, the President will be expected in Tanzania as soon as possible to tend to the situation that is deemed serious.
“President Samia, who has been in Dubai for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP28) has decided to cut her trip short and arrive in the country as soon as possible to deal with this disaster.”
The COP28 began on 30th November and is expected to end on 12th of December which has drawn leaders from across the world in the UN Summit to discuss matters climate change.
The Tanzanian government has however decided to cover for the funeral expenses of those deceased through the ongoing floods in Tanzania and landslides. In addition, all hospital expenses for those wounded and provide temporary housing to those whose homes have been washed away.
Four hundred rescue workers have also been dispatched to the Hanang region to help with rescue and humanitarian help. However, they have cited challenges including harsh weather, damaged roads leading to inaccessibility and telecommunications challenges.
The rains are expected to continue in the country this country, with the government doing everything possible to ensure precautions are taken seriously.
