Most Kenyan Universities’ students have sunk into depression because of lack of income. Parents start “letting you go” the moment you reach on your third year of study. By then you should have identified something that can generate little money that can keep pushing you. Let’s dig in.
Sell second hand clothes-; Most university students don’t afford to buy new clothes. You can use this opportunity to buy second hand clothes from a nearby mtumba market and resell them to students at a profit. Your marketing can be done from hostel to hostel or in university WhatsApp groups.
Photography:- This venture needs you to have only a camera. With some photography skills, you can take photos within the university. Students can get your services easily and you can charge for it. You can get your camera using your HELB savings.

Laundry:- Doing laundry for students can be a good venture because it doesn’t even need capital. Your clients can be lazy students who doesn’t like cleaning, busy students who have no time to clean or allergic students. They provide water, detergents and all that is needed. Do a good job to deserve a call back.
Boda boda-: Most youths know how to ride motorbikes. You can also be taught either by someone or going to driving school. All you need is to find someone to trust you with his bike. You already have a clientele through being a student. Maximize on it.
Mobile salon:- Ladies can also learn how to plait hair and can market their skill and be mobile with it. Instead of ladies going to the salon, they can call you in their houses and charge for it.
Sell fast foods:- With a trolley, eggs and smokies, you can start the smokie business. Buy, boil and sell around school or outside the school gate. You can also sell chips where most students reside.
Deliveries: As a student, you can collaborate with restaurants to do their deliveries at a fee or do shopping for students and in extension, working class who can send you to supermarkets and do shopping for them.
YouTubing:- You can start your YouTube channel where you can earn through shooting content with your phone. It can be pranks, story telling or any content that you’re passionate about. Numbers will eventually start streaming in.
Digital Marketing-: Most campus students have numbers in terms of followers on different social media platforms but don’t know how to turn it to money. Collaborate with brands to market their goods and services and get compensated for it. It can even be affiliate marketing where you get paid per sale. Aim to survive.

Freelance Writer:- If you are proficient in English and swahili, you can take up freelance writing jobs where you can get paid for it.
There are more other hustles that i haven’t noted down but as long as it doesn’t need high capital to start, offers flexibility in terms of schedule and doesn’t require specialised training as long as earnings help you survive, that’s the most ideal campus side hustle.
