Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has been accused of misuse of public funds during his tenure as the Governor of Kilifi County. Kingi accused of corruption is not new as more public servants face probe.
In his tenure of ten years, Kingi has been accused of misuse of Ksh. 14 Billion received to the county. A senate watchdog committee has called for the speaker to be summoned to account for the expenditure.
The auditor- general, Nancy Gathungu has pointed out some of the cases and funds that have no clear explanation on their spending. They include: A Ksh. 900 Million legal fee claim by a lawyer who represented the county in a Ksh. 300 Million case.
In addition, there is an unexplained contract worth Ksh. 300 Million revenue collection with Rain Drop limited in 2014. The company thus continued to receive Ksh. 4 Million monthly since 2016. This they continue to withdraw without doing work for the County.
The case build up continues with the county wiring Ksh. 51 Million in 2015 to six companies. This they used the integrated Financial Management Information System at night, contrary to the law.

On Thursday, Governor Gideon Mung’aro, the current governor of Kilifi appeared before the Senate Public Accounts Committee. He described the situation as a rotgen and run-down government that was headed by the current senate speaker Amason Kingi.
The Committee chairperson Moses Kajwang said that it was impossible to show what the 14 billion allocated annually to Kilifi did. Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah also voiced in on the same describing the revelations as a crime scene which was run like a criminal enterprise.
The auditor general confirmed that one firm, Rain Drops refused to provide details of the contract with County government under Amason Kingi. This is despite the investigations revealing a total of Ksh. 122.4 Million in transaction with the county.
What shocked the committee the most is the claim to the county to a tune of Ksh. 900 Million to a lawyer in a case against a Ksh. 300 Million lawsuit. Omtatah said that this was unacceptable in any society.
