After appearing before the senate to challenge his ouster by Kisii Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), the senate upheld Kisii County MCAs decision to have Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda Impeached.
In a midnight vote that focused on four aspects in which Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda was charged with, majority of the senators voted to have the Deputy Governor impeached with immediate effect.
The Deputy Governor who was accused of four charges, namely abuse of office, gross violation of the Constitution, gross misconduct and crime under national law was found guilty of all four by the senators.

Votes By 43 Senators on Robert Monda’s Impeachment
- Gross Violation of the Constitution: Ayes – 39, Nays – 3, Abstentions – 1.
- Abuse of Office: Ayes – 39, Nays – 3, Abstentions – 1.
- Gross Misconduct: Ayes – 35, Nays – 7, Abstentions -1.
- Crimes Under National Law: Ayes -32, Nays – 10, Abstentions – 1.
This comes after Robert Monda was accused by one Dennis Mokaya of receiving an Ksh. 800, 000 bribe with a promise to secure him a job at the Gusii Water and Sanitation Company Limited (GWASCO).
Monda who denied having received the bribe presented the witness’ parents as his witnessed who confirmed to the senate that the money was meant to clear a debt they owed the DG and not for bribery as their son claims.
The parents also added that the money was Ksh. 500,000 and not Ksh. 800,000 as the son claimed. However, this did not help overturn the fate of the Deputy Governor which by then had been sealed.

Directives To Kisii Governor Simba Arati
According to the law, Kisii Governor Simba Arati will now be required to nominate a new deputy after Monda’s impeachment within the next 14 days.
This will be followed by the nominee going through the Kisii County Assembly where he will be vetted before being considered by the County Assembly within 60 days.
