The ongoing conflict between Israel and the Hamas that means inclusion of Palestine has seen several civilians become casualties. This has forced humanitarian assistance from several countries and non governmental organisations across the world. Rwanda has become the latest country to send humanitarian aid.
In a bid to help civilians, Rwanda sent a cargo plane carrying aid. The Rwandair is carrying 16 tones of food, water and medicine made it’s way to Jordan enroute Gaza. The plane reached Jordan on Friday. The aid is expected to pass through Egypt due to lack of direct contact from Jordan to Gaza.
Yolande Makolo, the Rwandese government spokesperson confirmed the reports in a statement.
“The government of Rwanda through the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation. The organisation is acting on behalf of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has provided humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people in Gaza”
This comes after the United Nations released a report that the initial 20 trucks of aid have been allowed to enter Gaza through a deal with the Israeli government. The aid will pass through Rafah crossing from Egypt.
Rwanda said that the donation is in support of the international relief efforts to help the injured and civilian victims of the war. They also insisted on the need to protect innocent civilians and children caught in the Crossfire who have nothing to do with the war.
Various countries have picked sides especially from the African continent. Kenyan president condemned the attack on Israel and agreed to stand in solidarity with Israel. Ugandan president called for peace and protection of innocent civilians. South Africa’s Ramaphosa said South Africa stands in solidarity with Palestine.
Death toll in Gaza has risen to 4,137 people. With tens of thousands injured. This according to United Nations has reacged catastrophic levels. This meant that humanitarian aid was needed as soon as possible. This led to brokering a deal that allowed food and water trucks into Gaza through Egypt.
