President William Ruto, in his address, took a swipe at Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during Kindiki’s Swearing In, accusing him of “wasting” his first two years in his Presidency.
Speaking passionately at the swearing-in ceremony of new Deputy President Kithure Kindiki at KICC, President Ruto expressed frustration over lack of support to effectively communicate his administration’s programs.
Addressing Kindiki directly, Ruto lauded his intellectual capability and eloquence, saying, “I need your voice. I need your intellect to help me and members of our cabinet to profile and articulate the things we are doing.”

The President emphasized that over the past two years, he had been left as the sole communicator of his government’s initiatives, saying, “I have almost become a lonely voice in the Executive, especially within the Presidency, speaking about our programs and elaborating on our work.”
Ruto however expressed confidence in his new deputy’s ability to fulfil a role he felt was previously unmet. “You are eloquent, my brother; you are intelligent, my brother. I’m confident that you will do what I have missed for the last two years. I know you well.”
This becomes the first time that President William Ruto addressed the nation about the issues surrounding the Deputy President’s Office, having been silent all through during the Impeachment process against Rigathi Gachagua.
Hinting about the cause of the impeachment, Ruto’s Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said that the motion was pushed due to the feeling that Rigathi Gachagua was behind a motive to overthrow President William Ruto during Gen Z Protests in June.

“I cannot say anything about who was in charge because I am still in government, I am under the oath of Cabinet Collective Responsibility but when I retire, I will write a book. But I have told you there was a coup and that’s why one of the charges against an impeachment motion is about national security. You need to read between the lines.”
