President William Ruto has ordered Interior Ministry to ensure that all constituencies across the country are promoted and elevated to sub-counties status effective immediately.
According to a statement he made during a church service at the Stewards Revival Pentecostal Church in Nairobi, the Head of State directed that a proposal by Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje to be executed.
In his proposal, Mwenje had appealed to President Ruto to have constituencies elevated into sub-counties to ease service delivery for citizens, especially during recruitment by the government.

It’s on this proposal that President Ruto directed Interior Ministry Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo to ensure that all constituencies are elevated to sub-counties immediately.
“I have agreed with your MP that each constituency be elevated into a sub-county. PS Omollo go and implement the proposal,” the Head of State declared in the church gathering.
While presenting the proposal to the President, Mwenje argued that there were no clear bounderies in Constituencies thus making it difficult for service delivery and offer equal opportunities to citizens during the government’s recruitment exercises.
“But more importantly, when governments jobs are there and when we are recruiting teachers, military officers or youths for National Youth Service (NYS) is done, its normally through sub-counties.”
While using the example of the recruitment of Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers, the MP stated that Embakasi Sub-County has four constituencies while Ruai Sub-County has five constituencies which means many of the people in these constituencies are left out.

Moving forward, according to Ruto’s Directive, all constituencies will be elevated to sub-counties and new boundaries will be clearly defined to ensure that everyone knows where they belong.
