President William Ruto has come out to explain the reason for the delay of funds to counties after questions arose as to why funds are not yet released by the national government.
The head of state who was speaking on Thursday in Murang’a said that he is aware of the delay and he is working to ensure counties receive funds in the next one week or so.
Reason For the Delay To Release Funds
According to President William Ruto, the delay has been caused by the Eurobond pressure and he used the funds to pay out the Eurobond loan whose deadline was fast approaching.
“Si unajua last week nilikuwa nalipa ile deni kubwa niliachiwa na watu wa handshake, lakini sasa nimelipa hiyo.”

He also added that the rest of the funds were allocated to the Ministry of Education for Junior Secondary Schools roll-out to ease operations in the ministry.
“Hawa gavana wananiambia hakuna pesa imechelewa lakini nimwewaambia kwanza nicheleweshe yenu kidogo nihakikishe watoto wote wako shuleni secondary, tumetuma capitation huko TVETs na tumetuma huko university ndio sababu watoto waweze kusoma.”
President Ruto pledged to release the funds in a week’s time, after which he made a case for his pet project, affordable housing, saying it was one of his four-pronged approaches to reducing unemployment in the country.
