The KDF officers arrived in the wee hours of the morning in their military trucks and converged in various groups for briefings outside the facility as they awaited potential deployment.
It was not immediately clear if they would conduct patrols across the city as was witnessed last week or they will be deployed to help the police to deal with protesters as ruled by the court on Thursday.
However, President William Ruto during the round table interview at Statehouse on Sunday said that the KDF will not be deployed to the streets if the demonstrations remain peaceful.
“Kenya Defence Forces will not be on the street. They only come as a last result. If the demonstrations will be peaceful, I promise you, the police will be there to protect the demonstrators.”
The police are said to have blocked all roads that are leading to Statehouse. Affected roads include Dennis Pritt Road, State House Avenue, Processional Way, Valley Road, Jakaya Kikwete Road and adjacent feeder roads.
The situation remains tense in Nairobi as police claim that there are fears that the protesters might decide to march to Statehouse as they have vowed on various social media platforms and the closure of roads was a precaution.
