Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has come out to explain why he missed President William Ruto’s event despite his seat being reserved amid several speculations.
In a statement at Our Lady of Sorrows Baricho Catholic Parish in Kirinyaga County, the Deputy President said he was aware of the event but he couldn’t miss the cake cutting ceremony in Kirinyaga.
According to the Second In Command, his plan was to attend the cake cutting ceremony in the church and leave midway to join President Ruto but the event got colourful and he chose to stay instead.

“I was hurrying to attend another church in Nyeri (where President Ruto’s event was) then I saw there was a cake. I wondered whether an event without eating a cake is complete. So I decided to wait for the cake.”
However, on the other side in Nyeri, Deputy President’s chair remained empty despite Ruto’s event being held in Gachagua’s backyard, Nyeri and hence raising concerns and speculations on why the DP was missing in action.
Speaking about the empty seat, Senior Presidential Advisor Moses Kuria noted that that was the last time the seat will be empty in an indication that there will be a retaliation against Deputy President over his intentional miss at the event.
This comes as tension continue to rise within UDA party after according to Gachagua’s allies, President Ruto has failed to tame his allies who have constantly attacked the DP with the recent Kindiki endorsement worsening the situation.
