Recent push and pull between the Judiciary and the Executive has foeced President William Ruto to start hatching a plan for 2027.
According to recent reports, President William Ruto is working on a plan of installing Ex IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati to the Judiciary as its Chief Justice ahead of the 2027 polls.
Revealing the plan last week, Forner Prime Minister Raila Odinga, the former PM accused Ruto of plotting a plan for 2027 to have a friendly Judiciary due to the recent rullings that have mostly gone against the government.

According to Raila, the plot was discussed during the State House meeting between Executive led by President William Ruto and the Judiciary led by Chief Justice Martha Koome..
In the alleged plot, Mr. Odinga said Chebukati and his predecessor Ahmed Issack Hassan will first be enlisted as Court of Appeal Judges before Chebukati is later promoted to the CJ position.
In that (State House meeting) agreement, the five High Court Judges and two Court of Appeal Judges will be for Ruto to forward to the JSC. These names include Immediate former IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati and former IEBC Chairman Ahmed Issack Hassan. These will be appointed as Court of Appeal judges. Chebukati will be later elevated as the Chief Justice before the 2027 General Elections.”
According to Odinga, Martha Koome negotiated for additional funding which in return for this additional funding, Justice Koome is to advertise vacancies for five additional High Court Judges and 11 Court of Appeal judges.

Responding to claims, Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi said that anyone including Wafula Chebukati has a right to become the Chief Justice, thus showing a high possibility of the same.
“The Judicial Service Commission is independent, and it has the right to recruit anybody who qualifies to be a judge of this republic. So it’s wrong for the Azimio leadership to start determining who should the JSC recruit.”
