Raila Odinga has issued his opinion on the latest move by the Chief Justice Martha Koome to hold a meeting with President William Ruto in Statehouse.
Speaking in Lamu county, Raila said if at all the two had to meet to discuss the recent fallout between the Judiciary and the Executive, then such a meeting should have happened in a neutral place.
“State House is the home of the Executive. That is where the president resides. If there is going to be a dialogue over issues of governance, it should be held in a neutral ground.”

According to Raila, such a move is indicating a possible threat to the independence of the judiciary and such a meeting shows that the judiciary is being compromised and the Chief Justice is going to bed with the executive, something that could plunge this country to chaos.
“The Judiciary is being held hostage by the Executive, and we’ve seen this before. We saw it happen under the rule of Mr. Moi, and we’ve tried to caution the current CJ not to go to bed with the Executive.”
This comes after the Chief Justice Martha Koome on January 15th said the commission had reached out to President Ruto for a meeting to discuss any issues they have with the judicial arm.
However, Opposition leader Raila Odinga has termed the move as unfortunate and hoped that the rest of the members of the Judiciary are not going to be compromised.

The move has also triggered emotions on social media as Kenyans express their displeasure on the move saying that the Chief Justice should be firm and not to be pressured to allow the executive have their way without their say.
However, the meeting is currently taking place in Statehouse and more details on the results of the meeting will be made public once the meeting is over.
