Kenyans have questioned the latest move by Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) summon on Salasya, the Mumias East MP, over the assault of MCA while turning a blind eye in West Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro’s case.
According to EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak, in summons issued on January 16, ordered the MP to appear at the commission offices on Tuesday next week to record a statement on the incident.
“The commission is in receipt of an allegation that you assaulted Hon. Peter Walunya Indimuli, the Member of County Assembly Malaha-Isongo-Makunga Ward during a funeral service in Mumias East, Kakamega on Friday 12th January 2024.”
EACC Summon Salasya:
“To this end, you are required to appear at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission’s offices at Integrity Centre, Nairobi, on Tuesday 23rd January 2024 at 09:00 am for an interview and statement recording.”
However, Kenyans have shown their concerns over the commission’s blind eye on Sylvanus Osoro after the West Mugirango MP has been accused of causing havoc in Governor Simba Arati’s meetings in the county causing political tensions.
According to netizens who aired their opinions, they have accused the commission of not being impartial in executing their mandate taking some cases more seriously than others depending on political affiliations.
“So a slap is more serious than the one who fired live bullets into the crowds causing injuries to unarmed civilians with motive and intentions to harm? EACC should stop being used politically” one person lamented.

However, the commission condemned MP Salasya’s alleged actions terming them as a “serious breach of the integrity and ethical requirements” saying the lawmaker will be charged in accordance with the law if found culpable.
It’s still unclear whether or when Sylvanus Osoro will be summoned or if he will be summoned to either record a statement or give a brief detail on what happened according to ODM party leaders who called for immediate action against the West Mugirango MP.
