During the Jamhuri day celebrations, President William Ruto exercised his powers to award the Chief of The Burning Spear awards to individuals that have been recognized of their efforts towards nation building.
However, the President awarded the Chief of The Burning Spear (CBS) award and netizens have identified an identified one particular case that caught their eye. The Ms Mary Wambui, Nomination number 61.
Mary Wambui has been on the wrong side of the law in several instances. With shoddy deals and corruption allegations, she’s been a guest to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission. But is she the same person as the one awarded? That remains the unanswered question.
Back in 2021, Mary Wambui was involved in a questionable Ksh. 22 Billion Tender. EACC was by then investigating loss of public funds at the Kenya National Trading Corporation that had the powerful businesswoman entangled in the same.

Fast forward, in June 2023 the Mary Wambui companies were once again put on the spot after bagging rice and cooking oil deals worth billions. The four companies, each receiving ammounts running into billions were awarded to one person who’s name is said to be in the CBS list.
Netizens are now questioning the integrity of these awards if and only if the person named above is the same person at the Chief of the burning spear (CBS) list of awards done during Jamhuri day.
However, it’s still unclear whether it’s one and the same person on the CBS list but the familiarity and her association with the government had netizens raising questions about her.
