President William Ruto has finally responded about the demonstrations against the Finance Bill 2024 that happened on Tuesday and the planned demonstrations set to happen today across the country.
Speaking at statehouse on Wednesday, the Head of State said that he is aware of the situation and every kenyan has a right to demonstrate against decisions that affect him/her.
However, despite stating this, the President maintained that the ongoing protests will not cripple the decision-making process by relevant institutions including the executive.
“Civil society is free to do what they want to do; those who want to demonstrate, they can demonstrate, it is their right, no problem, but decisions have to be made by institutions.”
According to President Ruto, the three arms of government will work together to find a solution that works for the country and will not always depend on Popular decisions but effective decisions for the better of the country.
“We make decisions as the Executive, we take it to the Legislature, people will speak to it through public participation, others through a court process, that is how democracy works, and I am a great believer in democracy.”
This comes after kenyans on social media rallied each other to street protest against the Finance Bill 2024 that has been criticised for being impunitive with high taxation and unrealistic standards above the country’s capabilities.
However, the President emphasised that he will allow everyone to speak their minds the way they deem fit because kenya is a democratic institution that accepts criticism.

“I will make sure Kenya continues to be a robust democracy where people speak their minds and we all assist in taking the country where we want it to be.”
