A popular Meru politician Morris Kimathi who doubles up as an influential businessman was reportedly killed in Meru while in the company of an administrator Robert Mwithalie.
According to reports, the politician Morris Kimathi together with Malaene area administrative manager were killed in Meru while they were attempting to solve a land dispute that was having issues.
However, unknown to them, an armed gang was laying traps on them when they attacked the two with poisoned arrows and machetes ending their lives tragically on the spot.

It is still not yet clear if the businessman turn politician was an interested party in the disputed piece of land or he was just trying to solve a dispute between warring parties as an aspiring leader in the region.
Morris Kimathi vied for a position of Member of County Assembly (MCA) in the Ruunjine Ward in Meru County in the last elections and he is popularly known as Mwonyo in his ward.
Residents of Meru are now calling upon Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to move with speed and contain the gangs and bandits that are causing insecurity in the area.
However, Police Officers in the area confirmed that investigations are underway to establish the cause of the attack and bring the perpetrators to book over their involvement in the double murder.

This comes amid several reports of insecurity reports in Meru County, with most of them being politically motivated according to the residents. The latest incident being one of the many incidents reported in the recent past
