A popular Haiti gang leader named Makandal was killed in a fierce Shootout with Haitian Police Officers together with his gang members in Pétion-Ville, a suburb located on the southeastern side of Haiti.
According to reports by Haiti Police, the gang leader was allegedly killed after city residents joined law enforcement in attacking the gang leader and his associates.
Police say that after the residents realised that Makandal and his gang members were killed, they dragged their bodies in the streets for hours to celebrate their downfall.

After several hours of jubilation in the streets over the death of the gang, residents then set their bodies ablaze. Reports suggest that the gang leader’s house was also set on fire after his death.
Section of Haitians are said to have formed vigilante groups aimed at curbing the resurgence of criminals within Port-au-Prince in a bid to reduce violence against civilians within the city.
The vigilante group which draws members even from the Haiti security forces have so far made progress against gang members with reports indicating that 12 men believed to be gang members were killed and set ablaze.
Reports indicate that on Wednesday, March 20th, a total of 15 people had been killed in attacks around Petion-Ville after another Haiti gang leader “Barbeque” threatened he would go after hotel owners hiding old-guard politicians.

This comes as Kenya is said to be waiting for the formation of government in Haiti that will see an operation aimed at ensuring that kenyan police tackle gang operations in the Caribbean country.
After the resignation of Haiti’s Prime Minister Ariel Henry, Kenya is said to have halted her deployment mission to give room for the formation of a transitional government on which the mission will anchor.
