Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has directed the Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome to offer police widows jobs in the police service.
Speaking during a oint Commemorative Service to celebrate fallen heroes at the National Police Service College in Embakasi, Nairobi Kindiki said the move will help the family left behind to live comfortably even after the husband has passed on in the line of duty.
“We have agreed those police widows who have the requirements, we have a number of positions which we can support you to be employed, not in the police service but generally the public service.”

Kindiki said that the process of assessment to see which widow qualifies to be employed where will start in a bid to make the families left behind self sustainable.
“Therefore I want to direct the National Police Service Commission, IG, and the PSs to finalise the arrangements and the need assessment, we can just start with this year and see those we can place for employment.”
This means that the assessment and possible employment of widows will start with those who lost their husbands this year followed by the ones who lost their husbands in the previous years.

“As one of the legacies of the current regime, in the coming months, will also set up an endowment fund to offer scholarships and other financial support for grieving families.”
This comes after the CS said that the recruitment of the police will prioritise familoes of fallen soldiers. A pledge he made in December last year. He said children, widows, and close relatives will be prioritised, something yet to be realised by the government.
