Police along the Nyeri-Nakuru highway planted security check points on Saturday to flush out youths believed to be associated with Mungiki heading to a planned Mungiki meeting in Nyeri.
According to reports, police officers along the highway were seen checking every vehicle passing by including personal vehicles demanding to know where they are heading.
Kenyans travelling through public service vehicles (PSVs) were also stopped at the numerous checkpoints on the busy highway and took to social media to air their frustrations after being inconvenienced by the checkpoints.

However, most kenyans have expressed their concerns over the method on which the officers will use to identify members of the outlawed gang heading to the Mungiki meeting. Most claiming that police are using it as a way to extort and harass innocent kenyans on the road.
Nyeri County Commissioner Pius Murugu had earlier warned that the planned Mungiki meeting will not happen under his watch as he will do everything possible to ensure that the Kabirini grounds meeting will not happen because it’s a threat to citizens.
“I hear that some people want to hold a meeting here that may result in chaos, we shall not allow this to happen.”
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had earlier in the month ordered a crackdown on the illegal sect who were keen to destabilize the country.
