Police Officers were forced to throw several teargas canisters after several protesters gathered around Nairobi CBD and tried to proceed to Parliament buildings.
According to reports, the protesters who are said to be University lecturers were forced to flee to different directions after their plans to march to parliament were thwarted by police officers.
Reports indicate that the lecturers, under their trade union Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU), were marching to present their petitions to Parliament on a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that they had entered into with the government.

This comes after the government failed to honor their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) forcing them to call a nationwide strike and the Nairobi region lecturers gathered around Nairobi CBD and agreed to take their petition to Parliament physically.
However, following events that happened on June 25th, police officers have been on a hawk eyed watch to prevent any unauthorised kenyan to access Parliament buildings, moreso protesters after what Gen Z did on 25th.
Despite the Employment and Labour Relations Court on September 18, 2024 ordering the lecturers to call off their strike and terming it as illegal, the lecturers have vowed to continue demanding what is rightfully theirs.
Justice Jacob Gakeri gave the University Unions and the Ministry of Education seven days to respond to the application after which he directed both parties to negotiate without going to the strike. The matter will be mentioned on October 2 for further directions
