A police officer has been arrested in Malindi by the Malindi Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) in connection to the militia group. He was linked to Al-Shabaab.
According to reports, the police officer is accused of recruiting youths in Malindi to Al Shabaab, an action that led to his arrest on Saturday by the Anti Terror police unit.
Investigations also reveal that the police officer was not only a recruiter but a member of the terror group that has been terrorising coast residents, especially Lamu.

This becomes the second case after a constable was arrested in Coast. It was alleged that the constable targeted youth from Tana River County with reports alleging that a high number of youth had been reported missing by their families.
The cop was presented at the Shanzu Law Courts where he was also charged with being in possession of narcotic drugs that he was supplying to area residents.
“He was arrested by ATPU officers from Malindi on November 22 and has been held at Malindi Police Station under investigation for the last 28 days.

On December 21, he was formally charged. The officer was presented before the Senior Principal Magistrate’s Court, Shanzu in Mombasa, where he was charged with four counts including incitement of violence.”
However, the officer pleaded not guilty to the charges and is being detained at the Shimo La Tewa Prison.
This was followed by the officer’s application for a bond whereby the court directed to have the application determined on December 27 after the Christmas festivities.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations are also investigating the phone that was confiscated from the officers believed to be communicating with other militia group members in a bid to nab more accomplices linked to al Shabaab.
