Limuru Sub County Police Commander Phillip Mwania on Friday succumbed after being involved in a tragic road accident in Kitui, police confirm.
According to reports, the officer’s car was involved in a head-on collision with an oncoming truck, leading to the officer’s death.
The accident happened around 11:30PM near the Nzeeu River along the Kitui-Mutomo Highway as the officer was heading to his home.

Kitui County Police Commander Leah Kithei confirmed the incident noting that despite the officer’s death, the truck driver emerged unscathed.
Mwania’s body was moved to the Kitui County Referral Hospital awaiting postmortem. This comes hours after another accident claimed lives of two people and several injured in a road accident along the Busia- Kisumu Highway.
The accident that involved a Tahmeed bus and a fuel tanker have happened as the Fuel tanker tried to overtake when they hit head on with thr oncoming Tahmeed bus.
Elsewhere, another accident in Ahero, Kisumu county has claimed four people with a tuktuk and a bus involved in the Friday night incident.
According to reports, the incident happened around 11 pm on Friday, March 1, when the bus collided with an incoming Tuktuk while trying to overtake a lorry that was ahead of it.

Unfortunately, all the occupants of the Tuktuk died on the spot. No serious injuries were reported from the bus. Police have detained the bus driver suspected to be at fault, to assist with investigations into the accident.
The bodies were later transferred to a nearby mortuary, while the other passengers who sustained minor injuries had first aid administered to them at the accident scene.
Drivers have been urgedbto be careful on the roads and avoid careless overtaking as they go about their activities.
