The leadership of the house did on Wednesday disagree on the arrest of the controller of budget Margaret Nyakang’o on Tuesday.
This led to the Speaker Moses Wetangula repremanding Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi over remarks he made in the floor of the house about the arrest.
Wandayi had claimed that Nyakang’o is being targeted for exposing runaway corruption within the government and her strong stance against misuse of public funds.

Standing on a point of order, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah pleaded with the Speaker not to entertain his counterpart’s thoughts as they were misleading. Ichung’wah said that holders of independent offices are not above and immune to the law.
He said that the complaints lodged against the controller of budget are serious concerns and should be treated as such. He said that those matters should be left to the court and the prosecution and defense team to battle it out.
Kimani also urged the speaker to distance himself and the house from what he termed as a “political duel.” He added on that the DPP and the courts should be left to do their work as they deem fit.
Speaker Wetangula agreed with the majority leader said that Opiyo Wandayi’s comments were sub-judice with direct implications on a case that is already before court.
“This is a matter before the court, and what you are saying now is likely to undermine the integrity of the case, including the case of the person you are defending.”
The speaker also used his powers provided by the law to stop the rest of the house from talking about a matter that is in court. This he said will be sub-judice and will not be allowed in the chambers.
