A parent whose child survived at the horrific tragedy at Hillside Endarasha Academy school after 18 students were burnt to death has come out to narrate how his pupil survived the deadly incident.
Patrick Gikandi, a father of one Cornelius Gachanja, a Grade 8 pupil at Hillside Endarasha Academy couldn’t hide his relief when he was re-united with his pupil after he was told that he had survived the fire incident.
The pupil who was sleeping in the ill fated dormitory that housed 152 pupils said that prior to the incident at the school, he felt the urge to go for a nature call in the washrooms almost immediately before the inferno.

However, while he was walking to the washrooms, Gachanja said he saw a fire and before he could comprehend what was happening, was shocked by the screams of other pupils closer to the fire.
Immediately he realised what was happening, Gachanja said that he rushed back to the dormitory and woke up his colleague pupils who were sleeping next to him and they all ran out of the building.
The father claims he was shocked when the news about the fire incident broke out at the school where his son was schooling but calmed down when he received a call from another parent who had arrived at the school and seen his son.

“That information gave me a lot of relief but I still called another teacher who confirmed that my son was safe,” said Gikandi. Even though he felt releaved, Patrick says he knelt down and prayed for God to console their families of those who lost lives.
