The Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has today presided over the 2023 KCPE Results at the Mtihani House.
According to statistics released by the Kenya National Examination Council through Machogu, 8,525 candidates scored 400 marks out of the possible 500 in this year’s KCPE.
A total of 352,782 candidates scored marks ranging between 300 to 399 out of the possible 500. While 658,278 candidates scored marks ranging from 200 to 299.
A good number captured at 383,025 candidates scored marks ranging from 100 to 199 in the 2023 KCPE results. However, shockingly, 2,060 candidates scored marks below 100 out of the possible 500.

The cabinet Secretary also noted that a total of 9,354 candidates got an X. This means that they failed to sit for their 2023 KCPE Exams despite registering for the examinations.
The ministry has however confirmed that they will conduct a thorough mapping to ensure they sit for exams. This will be through a special exam that will be administered on January 2024.
This year, the top candidate in the 2023 KCPE Examinations scored a total of 428 marks out of the possible 500.
Placement of KCPE candidates will start on Monday 27th of November to ensure that the exercise is concluded before Christmas.
According to the Education Ministry, the placement will be 100% to Secondary schools to achieve the 100% transition to Secondary schools as the government is keen on phasing out 8-4-4.
This will be the last KCPE examination to be conducted in the kenyan education system as the system changes to Competency Based Curriculum.

Earlier on, the Education PS also confirmed that the offivial school reopening will be on 8th to ensure that normal school calendar is observed. This was after disruptions by the Covid-19 that has affected normal operations in the country.
