Two officers have been confirmed dead after the police vehicle they were travelling in ran over a landmine in Garissa. The officers were reporting on duty to man the KCPE examination that started today. Several other officers were injured and rushed to Dadaab Hospital for Urgent treatment.
This comes after TSC Interdicted teachers who were complaining of insecurity in the North Eastern region. The teachers were demanding for transfers and instead received interdiction letters from the commission. Read: TSC Interdicts Teachers Seeking Transfers From North Eastern
The attack took place at Ege Dam along the Dadaab-Garissa road. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred and the in most times, Al Shabaab militia has claimed responsibility. They have more than once planted the Improvised Explosive Device along roads.
Due to the poor road condition, it’s difficult to tell where an explosive has been planted. This has been a major challenge in the region as mostly security operators have been targeted. Innocent kenyans have also not once fall in the trap of explosives leaving many dead and several injured.
The front part of the vehicle was severely damaged due to the impact of the device. It’s however not clear if the Al Shabaab are responsible for this attack but statistically, they are.

Security remains a challenge in Lamu and the Northern part of the country where Al Shabaab have turned into their playground.
However, more challenges are being experienced in different parts of the country. This is due to bad weather that has made it nearly impossible to transport exam materials to the centers. But the government is confident that the exercise will be conducted to its conclusion.
