The UK Home Secretary, James Cleverly, has introduced new UK Visa rules aimed at curbing migration. The rules are according to Cleverly meant to reduce significantly the number of immigrants moving into the UK.
According to statistics, In 2022, the net migration in the UK reached 745,000. Cleverly aims to reduce this number by 300,000 migrants annually through the new UK Visa rules.

- The minimum salary needed to acquire a skilled worker visa to the UK is increasing to £38,700. That’s an increase of a third on the current level – and is designed to reduce migration to the UK significantly.
- However, Health and social care visas are exempt from the higher threshold. This is meant to address NHS staffing needs.
- Care workers employed to offer care will no longer be allowed to bring their dependants into the UK.
- The “shortage occupation list” is being reformed, with a reduced number of occupations
- The government has also announced it is increasing the minimum income for family visas to the same threshold.
- Anyone who wants to secure a Family Visa will now have to earn £38,700 to be eligible.
- People who want a skilled worker visa will have to earn £38,700. This is an increase from the previous level of £26,200.
- The immigration health surcharge this year will rise by 66%. This is from the current £624 to £1,035.
- International students are no longer permitted to bring dependents to the UK.

According to reports, there was a proposal to send anyone who entered the UK illegally to Rwanda, a plan that was declared illegal by the court. This proposal was meant to send all asylum seekers to Rwanda if it could have been approved.
