All university and college students pursuing nursing will be required to pay Ksh 20,000 as NCK proposes increase of indexing fees. This will cut across both private and public institutions across the country.
The Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) has proposed this move that will se an increase of Indexing Fees from the current Ksh. 9, 550.
This has led to students from several universities and colleges to rush to pay the current Ksh. 9,550 before the implementation of the Ksh. 20,000. This is in a bid to evade the new directive by the nursing Council.

Following these recent developments, the Nairobi University Nursing Students Association (NUNSA) has released a notice advising students to make payments as early as now. This is to avoid being caught in the Ksh. 20,000 mix up that is yet to be implemented.
“All comrades, who have the capacity and are in a position, to make their payments as soon as possible to avoid the extra charges.”
The students Association of Nairobi University has however stood on its ground and vowed to oppose the move and ensure that their voice is heard. This they said was a tactic to keep extorting students and parents.
“This is divide and rule tactic. Today it is nursing students, tomorrow it will be medicine students.”
The students Association has said it will use all available channels to stop the move.
The indexing fee is paid for registration of nursing to track your progress and determine if you’re eligible to sit for licencing examinations.
Students who pay this fee are given a unique index number, hence its name that becomes your unique number all through your medical practitioning. Failure to pay this money will lock you out of licencing exams thus one cannot practice in any medical facility in kenya.
