Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has finally explained why he has been engaged with the war of words with National Assembly Speaker and Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula.
Speaking in an interview with Citizen TV, Natembeya explained that part of the reasons for the fall out between the two is Wetangula’s exploitation of the Luhya community for personal political gains.
“He is leveraging our people to consolidate power. He rallies supporters by boasting about his influence, yet fails to utilise it for the development of our region.”

However, the first time Governor clarified that the fight between him and National Assembly Speaker is not personal but rather a fundamental divergence in opinion and perspective.
Further, the Governor claimed that Moses Wetangula had his preferred Gubernatorial candidate in Trans Nzoia, alleging that the speaker had persuaded him to drop his bid in favor of Chris Wamalwa of Ford Kenya.
“He is uncompromising and authoritarian. He imposes his agenda without room for negotiation. Disagreeing with him often results in intimidation tactics.”
According to Natembeya, Wetangula had promised him a cabinet position in the Kenya Kwanza government if he agreed to drop his bid, something that Natembeya disagreed with.
This comes just a day after National Assembly Speaker Wetangula broke his silence on the ongoing feud between him and the Trans Nzoia Governor, saying that despite all that, he is committed to uniting the Luhya community and the nation at large.

He however condemned the resort to physical altercations in politics, emphasising the need for decorum and respect among leaders across the political devide.
The Governor also said that he will neither support Wetangula nor Mudavadi to act as the spokesman of the Luhya community saying that the the two cannot take the Luhya community anywhere.
